The European Union Issues an Opinion on the Use of Calcium Phosphate Oligosaccharides in Food, Food Supplements, and Foods for Special Medical Purposes

According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), EFSA has issued an opinion on calcium phosphate oligosaccharides (POs-Ca®) as a source of calcium for use in food, food supplements, and foods for special medical purposes.
POs-Ca® is the calcium salt of potato starch-derived phospho-oligosaccharides. Under the temperature and pH conditions encountered during the production of chewing gum, hard candies, sugar-free soft candies, and apple juice, POs-Ca® remains stable.
Following an assessment, the European Food Safety Authority’s Panel of Experts concluded that calcium phosphate oligosaccharides (POs-Ca®), when used as a calcium source in foods, food supplements, and foods for special medical purposes, are safe and represent a superior calcium supplement.
